The June SiCC & SLCC meeting was a jam packed one with a new member joining us, reflections on some recent events, a visit from Route1, continued preparation for July’s Celebrating Care and Achievement event, talk about some upcoming events and most importantly of all we celebrated a very special birthday.
Welcome to our newest member
We were excited to welcome a new member to the group, Lily who joined the group this month. Lily was welcomed by the existing members and fit in like she’d been a part of the group for years. Welcome Lily, we’re so happy that you’re part of the group.
Shout-outs
We began the meeting by giving some shout-outs about some of the work that the group has been involved in.
We reflected back on the masterpieces that everyone created for the Creativity at County Hall exhibition. We received so many positive comments from visitors about the depth and beauty of the artwork and everyone’s contributions to make it the success it was. We also talked about the recent Getting to Know You Day, which took place at the ARK at Egwood. It was a very hot, but very impactful day, with members meeting lots of other children looked after, care experienced young people, workers and carers. Members ran a stall with a fund crafting activity that was really popular. Members also got the chance to sit in a Fire Engine, which is so much fun. Route1
Melanie Wilson from Route1 dropped in to the meeting, where she was welcomed by the group and they all had a great in-depth discussion about support for care experience young people post 25, and SiCC & SLCC member Leah shared some detailed feedback about the benefits of having an Independent Visitor. Celebrating Care and Achievement
Next month SiCC & SLCC will be hosting the Celebrating Care and Achievement event (formerly the Annual Achievement Awards), as part of this the group discussed preparations for the event. With discussions about trophies, mocktails, lanyards and a few in-office sessions of writing out certificates for all of the nominees. It’s shaping up to be a really fun event. Profile for Leaving Care Staff
The group worked together on a Profile for Leaving Care Staff, a document that will detail all of the information that they would have or would find helpful to know about their leaving care worker before being introduced.
Happy Birthday
This month’s meeting was extra special as it marked the 16th birthday of one of our members, Leah. We celebrated in style and even shared a cake with 16 candles. Happy Birthday Leah.
Somerset in Care and Leaving Care Council (SICC & SLCC)
SiCC and SLCC is a forum for all children and young people who are either care or leaving care aged 10-25 years, which provides the opportunity for the group to have their voices heard, which helps to shape and review the services that they use.
We are a kind and friendly group who meet in-person every month.
