Members of the Somerset in Care and Leaving Care Council (SiCC & SLCC) attended a Getting to Know You Day at the Ark at Egwood in May, where they met with children looked after, care experienced young people, workers and carers. They even ran a stall with a creative activity that visitors could take part in.
On a very hot 27 May, members of SiCC & SLCC set up their stall at the annual Getting to Know You Day in South Somerset, a fantastic free event for children looked after and care experienced young people to have some fun, meet other children looked after and care leavers and find out about some of the services, workers and support available to them in the County.
SiCC & SLCC members AJ, Leah, Rox and Ryan ran several craft activities at their stall including mini canvas art, make your own suncatcher and a guess the sweets in the jar game. This ensured that everyone who came to the stall would have an opportunity to make something themselves that they could take away as a memento of the day and get a chance to have a chat with members of the group.

SiCC & SLCC got the opportunity to talk with visitors to the event about the great and important work that the group does and how they support and advocate for all care experienced children and young people across the county.
Members of SICC & SLCC also got the opportunity to experience the event’s silent disco, explore a Fire Engine, have a Hobby Horse run around and enjoy a well-deserved ice cream from the ice cream van.
Jule Rickwood, Engagement and Participation Officer for SiCC & SLCC said: “I am so proud of all members of SiCC and SLCC. They work hard on lots of projects throughout the year and are an absolute credit to themselves. We love the GTKYD’s and look forward to the West’s event on Friday 21st August 2026.”
