Members of SiCC and SLCC returned to RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre for an activity day in the sunshine.
SiCC and SLCC members along with Engagement and Participation Officer Julie, visited RSPCA West Hatch Animal Centre to help build their skills and knowledge of animal welfare. The group got to look around the site and have a look at the animals rescued by the centre.
SiCC and SLCC then settled down to make bird boxes, which will be donated to local schools that the RSPCA work with. The experience of building the bird boxes taught the members of SiCC and SLCC carpentry skills, as well as how to safely use tools, including a drill.
The bird boxes will support wildlife in local communities and helping to educate children and young people grow their appreciation of the natural world. The RSPCA will be sharing stories about the birds that will nest in the birdboxes and the homes they build with SiCC and SLCC.
SiCC and SLCC had a great day, with one member telling us that “It was so fun, I really enjoyed myself”.

SiCC and SLCC is a forum for all children and young people who are either care or leaving care aged 10-25 years, which provides the opportunity for the group to have their voices heard, which helps to shape and review the services that they use.
