Leon Isaac, member of SiCC and SLCC has recently joined a new national 18-month research project called ‘Grown Up? Transitions to Adulthood’, which explores the experiences and attitudes of young people moving from adolescence to adulthood.
The project is run by the Nuffield Foundation and Hopkins Van Mil Youth Insight Group (YIG) and hopes to find out more about what matters to young people and how they navigate life changes – from options at school, perspectives and values to new relationships, independence and entering the working world.
The project is made up of 20 young people aged 14-24 years from across the county, with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds. The group meets a combination of in person and online, with Leon visiting London as part of the first session! Sessions involve a combination of icebreaker activities, group work on topics and deep dive workshops that look at things like mental health and social media.
Leon says: “This is my first opportunity to represent SiCC and SLCC and I feel very excited to be part of such an important national project. It was quite nerve wracking travelling such a long distance and meeting all the young people and staff for the first time. I now love doing this because I have got to know the other young people on the project and get to share my own experiences; which should help more young adults in the future. I would encourage care experienced children and young people to step outside their comfort zones like I have because it will help you to feel more confident, make new friends and learn new skills.”
