A new animation has been produced in collaboration with members of the Somerset in Care and Leaving Care Councils (SiCC and SLCC) that answers the question: What is a Child Looked After review?
The aim of the animation was to help children and young people in care to understand what is involved in a Child Looked After review. The animation explains:
- The purpose of the review, including what to expect before and after
- When and where reviews take place
- What the review will include
- The role of an Independent Reviewing Officer
Creating the animation was a truly collaborative process, that made sure that children and young people helped shape it. Members of SiCC and SLCC were part of every step in the process, from reviewing the script created by Route1 Advocacy, to recording narration and having input on the storyboards and final edit of the animation created by the Somerset Council Engagement and Participation team.
SiCC and SLCC is a forum for children and young people who are either care or leaving care aged 10-25 years, which provides the opportunity for the group to have their voices heard, which helps to shape and review the services that they use.

Route1 Advocacy is a service that provides advice and support for children and young people across Somerset. Among the services they offer are Independent Visitors and advocates. Independent Visitors are volunteers who befriend and spend time with a child or young person who is in the care of the local authority. Advocates can support children and young people to make sure that their views are listened to and acted upon.
