NHS SWAPS

A small group of SiCC and SLCC members have acted as consultants to the SW Care Leaver Covenant Rollout Oversight Group (SW CLC ROG) which is an NHS group committed to the Care Leavers Covenant and developing opportunities for care leavers to take employment in the NHS.

In Somerset, care leavers are invited to take part in the SWAPS (Sector-based work academy programmes) to develop the knowledge and skills to work for Somerset NHS Foundation trust.

Chloe, talks about her experiences of doing the SWAPS programme, this video will be used on the course and also to promote the course to care leavers.

Did you know that if you are a young person in care or leaving care in Somerset then you automatically have the right to be a member of SiCC and SLCC?

The Somerset Care Council is a forum where young people in care or care leavers can have a voice about their lived experiences. This voice can help shape and review the services you use.

Through the core group, the creatives or the film crew, care experienced young people can contribute through doing surveys, creating films, interviewing new staff, contributing to our newsletter, attending virtual meetings or being connected through email or social media. Their views and opinions help to improve the way services are shaped in Children’s Social Care at Somerset Council.
